Full Rebuild of a Bioni Decanter Centrifuge After Major Breakdown

The Situation

When a decanter centrifuge goes down unexpectedly, it doesn't take long before operations feel it. An unplanned shutdown in a demanding application like mud dewatering means lost time, pressure on the team, and a machine that needs to be back in service as quickly as possible — but done properly.

That's exactly the situation one of our customers in Copenhagen found themselves in earlier this year. Their Bioni decanter centrifuge had suffered a major breakdown that brought the machine out of service. They needed it back — reliably and without cutting corners.

They called us.

What We Did

Earlier this year, our service team carried out a complete overhaul of the unit at our workshop. The scope of work included:

  • Full disassembly of the decanter and condition assessment of all components
  • Bearing replacement along with inspection of all associated components for secondary damage
  • Scroll conveyor inspection and reconditioning
  • Ceramic tile welding to the conveyor flights for enhanced scroll wear protection, at the customer's request
  • Bowl inspection and rebalancing
  • Drive and gearbox assessment
  • Full reassembly to manufacturer specifications
  • Testing and quality checks before return to the customer

We documented the entire process with photos at each stage, giving the customer complete visibility into what was found, what was replaced, and what the machine looked like before and after.

The Result

A fully rebuilt Bioni decanter, back to operational standard, with a clear service history — ready to return to duty in the customer's mud dewatering process.

The customer in Copenhagen had their machine back within the agreed timeframe, with confidence in its condition and reliability going forward.

Quick Fix vs. Full Rebuild

Decanter centrifuges are workhorses. They run hard, often in demanding environments, and the cost of unplanned downtime can be significant. The difference between a quick fix and a proper rebuild is the difference between a machine that fails again in a short period of time and one that gives you years of reliable operation.

At Jensen & Nowak, we don't just swap parts — we assess the whole machine and make sure the rebuild is done properly, with full documentation and transparency every step of the way. And because we work with used and refurbished process equipment every day, we understand these machines inside and out.
